Writers’ Night@Lolo’s (Part 2)

September 13, 2006

Poetry is essentially an oral art. However it is more than language, for words only approximate the poetic expression. Thus words have to be wounded so that you unsay what is said.

With public readings, it is important to consider the poems that you will read. As much as possible, they have to be simple. As they say, ‘Dapat ma-getz sa sarong pasada lang’.

In this regard, we think of the OragonRepublic Writers’ Night at Lolo’s Bar yesterday. The crowd was quite big and some of them opted to converse with each other than listen to the readers. However, we maintain that public readings  have to continue. Thus lend us your ears.
